Who is the Dubbing Ambassador?

When Änne Troester calls herself “Dubbing Ambassador to the World”, she is only half joking. Although already infected with the dubbing virus as a child while moving around in different countries, she took a little detour before taking up her ambassadorial duties. Her university studies in Frankfurt, Champaign-Urbana (Illinois), and Leipzig were financed with scholarships and jobs in universities and advertising agencies, and she briefly considered an academic career. But parallel to finishing her PhD in American Studies with a thesis on the novels of Paul Auster, she moved to Berlin and settled into the dubbing industry.

As a dubbing scriptwriter, Änne has since adapted into German series like “Peaky Blinders” and “Avenue 5”, or cinema releases like the new “Star Trek” films, the Argentinian Oscar-winner “El secreto de sus ojos”, David Lynch’s “Inland Empire”, or “The Woman King”. “Extras” won a German Dubbing Award for best dubbed series in 2009. As language expert, she helped supervise films like “The BFG” and “The Grinch”, and as German Dubbing Supervisor, she established quality standards and dubbing workflows for the fitness brand Peloton.

In 2012, she began to develop and teach dubbing scriptwriting workshops for universities, companies, and institutions. Her language-agnostic class “Dubbing Scriptwriting” for AVT Masterclass went online in the spring of 2025.

Änne was voted into the board of the German dubbing industry association “Synchronverband” in 2021, and has since then represented the industry nationally and internationally. Together with her colleagues on the board, she organized the 2025 edition of the German Dubbing Awards. She has become an expert on AI in the dubbing industry and workflow, and realizes projects fostering the visibility and the preservation of the German dubbing landscape. As a writer and speaker, she proves – online and live – how much magic lies in dubbing.
